Nursing profession is visualized as moral practitioners


Nursing In medical set up, general practitioner and nurses have mutually supporting roles in the delivery of quality, comprehensive health care. Nursing profession is recognized as valuable contributions in therapeutic field at international level. Nurse- client relationship is sociable affiliation. Various health organizations continue to encourage effectual nurse-physicians interface in hospital settings through policies that bring about cooperation in patient care and a climate that promotes mutual respect and faith. It is a general conception that nurses are dominant professionals. They support and look after life of patient, often under odd circumstances. Nurses assist patients to reduce their pain and counsel them for greater chances of fast recovery. So nurses are very important in healing ailment of patients.

In past, nurses have struggled with a bad impression in the general social framework all over the world, from the America to India. Today views are changing. World people are under grip of various life threatening diseases. Nurses play influential role to handle patients in critical stage. So nurse's image is enhanced.

Nursing profession is attracting to the students because it mainly focuses on supporting clients or people to maintain health and lead normal life. It is just like benevolent behavior following the code of ethics. If we review international literature, we find Hildegard Pepla, Florence Nightingale and many others are that major contributors in nursing field. These nurses have made this profession valuable through their great service to mankind. In nursing practices, nurse-client relationship is established to aid and treat the patient. The duty of nurses is to provide good services to improve health through examination, description, formulation, understanding, rationale, and involvement.

Basic qualification for nursing profession-
Candidates desire for nursing courses should at least pass their S.S.L.C or equivalent examination. Physics, Chemistry Biology Subjects are preferred in doing further study and training for nursing profession. Training in nursing is usually given in institutions which are affiliated to hospitals.

Professional courses include-
B.Sc (nursing) Degree courses and General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) diploma courses. B.Sc (nursing) course is for four years and GNM courses for three years.

In nursing training, both theory and practice sessions are conducted. During the period of training, nursing students are given practical instruction by senior ward staff. Nurse-tutors organize and supervise the work. Specialists in various fields of medicine deliver lectures on various aspects of medicine and nursing. During the training period, nurses are moved around all hospital departments. Steadily they are assigned with more responsibility so that the changeover from training to taking full responsibility seems quite normal.
