Eligibility Criteria

Nationality/Citizenship

A candidate must be either

  1. a citizen of India or
  2. a subject of Nepal or
  3. a subject of Bhutan or
  4. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or
  5. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination/interview conducted by the Bank/IBPS but on final selection the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.

Educational Qualification

Minimum 60% marks for Science graduates (55 % for SC/ST/PWD) & 55% for graduates in other streams (50% for SC/ST/PWD) in aggregate from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Government of India with the same percentages as stipulated above.

Selection Procedure

The selection will be made on the basis of performance in written test and interview. The details of the written test shall be communicated to the candidates in advance.

Note:

The candidates shall be required to qualify in each objective test as per cut-off marks determined on the basis of Group Performance in each test subject to minimum 40% marks (35% in case of SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates) in aggregate out of 200 marks of the objective test. Wrong answers given in the objective test will result in negative marks.

DESCRIPTIVE TEST

It will consist of 4 questions out of which the candidates are required to attempt 3 questions only. The test will be of 60 marks (i.e. 20 marks for each question). The minimum passing marks would be 40% for General Category candidates and 35% for SC, ST, OBC and PWD candidates. Time duration for the test will be 45 minutes. However, the test will be only qualifying and the marks obtained therein shall not be reckoned for preparing the merit list. The candidates shall have the option to answer the descriptive test either in English or Hindi. Further, the descriptive paper will be evaluated to the extent of around 5 times the number of vacancies based on the merit ranking of the objective test.

Wherever written examination is held, the blind candidates and candidates whose writing speed is affected by cerebral palsy can use own scribe at their cost during the written examination. In all such cases where a scribe is used, the following rules will apply:

  1. The candidate will have to arrange his/ her own scribe at his/ her own cost
  2. The academic qualification of the scribe should be one grade lower than the stipulated eligibility criteria
  3. The scribe can be from any academic stream
  4. The scribe should possess 60% or less marks in his own academic stream.
  5. Both the candidate as well as the scribe will have to give a suitable undertaking, confirming that the scribe fulfils all the stipulated eligibility criteria for a scribe as mentioned above. Further, in case it later transpires that he did not fulfill any of the laid down eligibility criteria or suppressed material facts, the candidature of the applicant will stand cancelled, irrespective of the result of the written test.
  6. Such candidates who use a scribe shall be eligible for extra time of 20 minutes for every hour of the examination.

  1. For SC/ST/PWD candidates - Rs. 50/- (for postage)
  2. For all others (including OBC) - Rs. 400/- (350 + 50 for postage)
