Group C-Non Technical Cadre Examination


Recruitment of Group C level workers is carried out through the 19 Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) in the country. These bodies undertake the recruitment process of the personnel in the zones and the production houses and other Railway departments in the zonal levels. They are responsible for inviting applications in the technical and non-technical cadre in the Group C. Though RRBs are located at different states, there is no regional or linguistic requirement for any post.

What is the difference between Group C - Level 1 (Formerly Group D ) and Group C -Level 2 ?


Group C Level II includes posts like fitter, crane driver, blacksmith, and carpenter. But Group C Level I (formerly Group D) includes posts like track maintainer, points man, helper, gateman etc. There is slight variation in age for these categories. Group C level II posts are open to candidates between 18-28 years, but Group C Level I (Erstwhile Group D) posts are open to people in the age group between 18-31 years. The salary range for Group C Level I in addition to allowances under Level 2 of the 7th Pay Commission (level 2) is between Rs 19,900-63,200, for the latter it will be in the scale of Rs 18,000- 56,900.

What is the age limit and qualification?

The age criteria for majority of the posts are within the limits of 18 to 27 years while the educational qualifications varies from post to post, which can range from matriculation pass to Graduation from a recognized University
