ISC Classical Language Syllabus

One paper (3 hours) of 100 marks containing:

ARABIC (837)

  1. Questions on grammar which will include the following:
    1. Articles
    2. Suffixed Pronouns
    3. Relative Pronouns
    4. Sifat wa Mausuf
    5. Mudaf wa Mudaf Ilaihi
    6. Nominal Sentence
    7. Cases of the Noun
    8. Verbs-simple forms (b) Unseen translation from English into Arabic consisting of short prose sentences and a continuous passage of prose.
  2. Unseen translation from English into Arabic consisting of short prose sentences and a continuous passage of prose.
  3. Translation from the prescribed books. A choice of passages will not be given. Candidates will be required to translate from the prescribed books.
  4. Questions, requiring short answers, to te888t knowledge of the subject matter of the prescribed books.

SANSKRIT (838) & PERSIAN (839)

One paper (3 hours) of 100 marks containing:
(a) Questions on grammar.
(b) Unseen translation from English into the language concerned, consisting of short prose sentences and a continuous passage of prose. For list of Prescribed Textbooks, see Appendix I.
(c) Translation from the prescribed books. A choice of passages will not be given. Candidates will be required to translate from the prescribed books.
(d) Questions, requiring short answers, to test knowledge of the subject matter of the prescribed books.
