Textile designing is a highly creative job. To become textile designers, candidate must have sense of fabrics and knowledge of different designs suitable for appropriate material. They must produce initial sketches by hand or on computer, using specialist computer aided design (CAD) software, manipulate digital designs until they create designs according to customers' requirements, make samples or having them constructed by technicians, do research in developing design according modern trends, liaising with clients, technical staff, marketing and buying staff, keep up to date with developments in manufacturing technology. They have to sometimes work with colleagues as part of a design team, and be involved with each stage of the design process.
