British Chevening Scholarships

The Chevening Scholarships are amongst the world's top scholarship schemes and provides scholarships to around 1000 leaders from over 130 countries to study in UK every year. It was launched in 1983 and India was one of the first 39 countries to send scholars.

The Chevening India Programme is now the UK's second largest scholarship programme globally. It has, over the years, given an unique opportunity to over 1800 talented Indians to study in Britain, develop their skills and think of the UK as their partner of choice as they become opinion-makers in their own fields.

Eligibility

You must be an Indian national with a valid Indian passport.
You must be between 25 and 35 years old as on November 30, 2006 (except B01-Gurukul for which age criteria is between 28 and 40 years old).
You must be fluent in written and spoken English.
You must wish to study a Masters Course at a UK institution of no more than 12 months or one of the Chevening short-term professional courses.

British Chevening Scholarships enable you to:

  • Study in the UK for a one-year Master's degree
  • Train for short professional courses
  • The programme is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and managed by the British Council worldwide.

Financial Assistance

  • The scholarships cover the tuition fee and living expenses.
  • The scholarships do not include international airfares.

Categories

1. Long Term (open) Scholarships

These are applicable for a one-year post-graduate (Master's) study at any UK university and are fully funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Note: If you are applying for the Indian Friends of London School of Economics Shared Scholarships, you must seek admission only to the London School of Economics.

2. Short Term (professional) Scholarships

These are meant for working professionals and practitioners.
You could be a print journalist, broadcast journalist, corporate manager or environmental manager.

How to apply

The Chevening HSBC Scholarship offers three full scholarships for Indian citizens towards one-year Master Courses at any accredited UK University. The priority subjects are banking, economics, sustainability & environmental studies. These are full scholarships covering tuition fees, flights to and from the UK and a contribution toward living costs. It is the responsibility of the applicants to identify a suitable Masters programme and apply for a course beginning in September / October 2010 and also ensure secured admission.
