The CAT test consists of questions divided into 3-4 sections. About 75 to 150 objective type questions can be expectedand. Each question has a question statement followed by four alternate answer choices and the candidate has to choose the best answer for each of the questions and mark it on a special Optical Reader answer sheet. Even as the number of questions may vary so also do marks of each question. There can be a combination of 0.5 marks, 1 mark and 2 marks questions. The duration of the test is of 120 minutes, Which means each question needs to be answered in seconds and not minutes. Most students are unable to attempt all questions, therefore the important thing is to attempt as many right answers as possible and not try completing even difficult questions. This is so because not only of shortage of time but also negative marking. While each correct answer carries 0.5 or 1 or 2 positive mark, each incorrect question carries 1/3rd of the marks allocated to it as negative marks. Smart Selection and Acuuracy is the key to the Cat or Common Admission Test.
What is the method of evaluation of CAT exams?
The CAT being an aptitude test grades students on different parameters. The scores are presented in Percentage score (%score) and Percentile.
Percentage (%)score: The % score represents normalized percentage of scores secured by the candidate. It is a relative method of representing the score. This is not the actual % score.
Percentile: Percentile indicates student's relative performance position among the total students who took the CAT. For example 96.7 percentile means that the student is among the top 3.3 percent of the population who took the CAT.
