To become forester, candidate must have special personality traits which include fondness for outdoors, spirit of exploration, good health, energy and physical fitness, tolerance, scientific temperament, organizing ability, public relations skills, practicality, courage, decision-making ability, capacity to work long hours, a authentic interest in the preservation of the natural environment and habitat, tendency for research and academic bent of mind, curiosity, excellent skills of observation, interest in agriculture and geography.

Courses; Forestry academic study consist of a bachelor's degree e (B.Sc (Forestry)), a 3- or 4-year degree course which can be done in various universities in the India. The basic qualification require to join the B.Sc. (Forestry) course is a pass in plus two with science or agriculture as the group of subjects. The B.sc. course may be followed up with the 2-year M.Sc. in Forestry. PGDFM is a field based course which combines managerial qualities concordant with the demands made by the forestry sector.
