Avail These 5 Opportunities After Qualifying GATE?

Every year in February, GATE is conducted at various centers in India. Multiple career options are available for candidates after qualifying GATE, whether a Master’s degree course in engineering from the reputed institution or take up a good job in the respective field of specialization. Many experts suggest that a good rank in the competitive exam can raise your chances of getting a good job. In private firms, GATE rank may not be a major consideration, but it provides a solid selection criterion in many public sector undertakings.

After qualifying this examination, successful candidates will be eligible to study M.Tech at some of the premier engineering institutions in India. The exam tests the knowledge of engineering and analytical abilities across various disciplines. Aspirants have choices to give the exam as per their subjects, opted while doing graduation, such as Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Computer Science and so on. The avenues are endless and while that brings a rush of adrenaline, it also means carefully considering each and every option and making informed choices.

Higher Education Options after GATE

One of the most sought-after career options after qualifying GATE is to pursue a postgraduate program from a good engineering college. You can go for an M-Tech, ME or MS course from an institution of your choice, based on your GATE rank, specialization area, and academic interests. If you have a good rank, then you may easily go for an ME or M-Tech program at an IIT, NIT, or IISc. This can open great job avenues in future. Usually, these top engineering institutes accept ranks up to 1500, varying by the institution. However, ranks up to 2500 or above are the criterion for selection in other private and government engineering colleges.

Moreover, not all engineering disciplines and specializations attract effective career options after qualifying GATE. Aspirants prefer the departments like mechanical, electronic, electrical, and computer science. Further, some specializations like manufacturing or production and design engineering can fetch you better job profiles. In the electronics and electrical fields, you may prefer specializing in VLSI, power electronics, and power systems.

Pursuing M.Tech

After clearing GATE, candidates can straight away apply for M. Tech in the IITs, which, of course, is the most obvious way to go. There are many benefits for the candidates who have a valid Gate score card like they will be entitled to stipend and other benefits during your two years of M.Tech. Upon successful completion, lucrative jobs with attractive packages await you with salaries ranging from seven lakhs to thirty lakhs per year. Clearing GATE gives a leeway towards fulfilling the dreams of studying in the IITs.

Research

GATE score is valid for a period of two years. Candidates who are passionate about their core subjects can also opt for research; Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories. Research is an area that is explored very less by the youth of our country, albeit, an area that holds great promise. It’s not a good option going to the universities which are settled in abroad for a research program & struggling on part-time jobs to meet expenses when one can do their research work in their own country and also earn a handsome stipend for it.

Job opportunities in Public Sector Units

About 2000- 3500 vacancies are filled in various Government and Public Sector Undertakings using GATE scores. Several PSUs these days are employing candidates with good GATE scores. GATE score is the major criterion to recruit the engineers in PSUs like IOCL, ONGC, SAIL ,BHEL ,BARC and above 200 plus PSUs present in the country. These are highly paid jobs and the training and learning opportunities in some of these organizations are fantastic. A job in a PSU ensures you keep in touch with exciting engineering advances while enjoying the security and perks of a Govt. Salary. The rise in the ranks may get you work on some very exciting development projects in the country. The perquisites and the level of job security are unmatched in these positions. PSU as an option is probably a wise decision to make if one has good GATE scorecard.

Sponsorship Opportunities

A good GATE score will make you eligible for the sponsorship programs with government bodies like DRDO, ISRO, BARC, Doordarshan, IAF, INDIAN NAVY and Army etc. which run for two years. The sponsorship is accompanied with a notice that you need to work for the organization for a few years after completing the M.Tech, but that is not a major concern when compared to the benefits you derive with your valid GATE scores.

Scope of Foreign Universities After GATE

Students can charm their stones in foreign firms if they want to settle foreign countries and make a career. As GATE is considered while admitting you in a postgraduate course in a foreign university, it can also offer an advantage while seeking a job in a foreign company. Prestigious universities of Singapore also validate the GATE scorecard for admission.

If GATE percentile is 90 or more, you can gain admission in National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU, Singapore) and pursue your master’s degree in Engineering from their campuses. To achieve a combination of an exciting career with job security GATE score will be the basic condition to fulfil the dream. With such a combination being nothing less than a dream come true in private domains, you should not miss the opportunity to give it your best shot and pave way for a great life ahead.
